To raise awareness within the London Borough of Havering of the importance of sustainable waste management by promoting the 'reduce, reuse, recycle' principles, through community engagement and waste, reuse and recycling education. To liaise with the London Borough of Havering (the Council) to help launch targeted waste reduction, recycling contamination and clean streets campaigns, and to assess the effectiveness of reuse and recycling initiatives. To manage a Community Benefit Plan, and deliver ongoing social and environmental value. To devise and deliver waste education lessons for roadshows, local schools and community events.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsibilities and duties will include, but will not be limited to:
* Management of the annual Community Benefit Plan, and production the associated Monthly Community Benefit Tracker and Annual Community Benefit Report, for submission to the Council
* Ensure that all local 'community benefit' commitments are delivered to a high quality, and in line with commitments
* Effectively manage and oversee various funds to be used for community engagement and environmental purposes
* Promote of the principles of the Waste Hierarchy
* Work closely with, and provide assistance to, the Council in all matters relating to waste reduction, and the improvement of local recycling statistics ensure a consistent joint working approach is achieved between and the Council on all matters relating to communications and community engagement
* Support the Council with their Social Value Strategy
* Develop a detailed understanding of the local services provided by and exercise initiative in dealing with associated service queries and problems arising from internal and external sources
* Analysis of data and presentation of accurate information to the local Council
* Inputting and communicating KPI data, internally and externally
* Promote and publicise both and the Council's services amongst the local community; community and resident groups, businesses and other interested parties within the London Borough of Havering
* Review potential service improvements against the contract's reuse and recycling aims
* Assist the Council in producing news articles and social media posts relating to the services provided and wider environmental issues.
* Arrange visits to deliver waste education lessons for roadshows, local schools and community events.
* Produce documents and reports for internal, Council and public review
* Represent at presentations made to the Council relating to our contract services and performances
* Assist the HR Department in improving local employment on the workforce, and in providing opportunities for NEET individuals, homeless individuals, and veterans
* Assist the HR Department in filling workforce apprenticeships
* Assist the Procurement Department in implementing local and sustainable procurement practices
* Plan and oversee local tree planting schemes, in partnership with the Council
Urbaser Ltd
* Work with other departments to realise environmental benefits and emission reductions
* Manage the carbon offsetting scheme
* Develop relationships with local reuse charities to improve reuse with the Borough
Essential characteristics:
Required skills, qualifications, abilities, and experience includes, but is not limited to:
* Highly motivated individual with good work ethic
* Excellent administration skills and highly organised
* At least 1 year of relevant experience relating to the job role
* Ability to manage complex projects to set deadlines and specifications
* Confident public speaker, able to present clearly to audiences
* Positive attitude and ability to work in a multicultural environment
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
* Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) etc.
* Ability to travel for work when required
* An understanding of financial budgeting
* Experience of working with voluntary groups, charitable organisations, or education sector
* Knowledge of local area, schools and communities
* Experience of planning or delivering environmental education.
* Proven track record of working to defined KPIs
* Honest and trustworthy
Desirable characteristics:
Desirables skills, qualifications, abilities, and experience includes, but is not limited to:
* Experience working for private sector environmental services companies, or in public sector environmental services
* Full Category B driving license
* NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualification(s)
* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
