General Questions & Answers
Q: Why the name ROC?
A: When Debbie MacBeattie (ex Burke) started ROC on 4th July 1991, her former employer had gone into liquidation so she walked in one door that morning and opened the door to her own business that afternoon. The priority was sustaining the current clients who were looking for staff and candidates who were on interview. Debbie asked a couple of friends who worked in marketing and design if they had any ideas for the name for a recruitment company - "no pressure" she said "we need one in less than 24 hours"! They all decided a three letter acronym was good - easy to remember and short. The suggestion everyone liked was ROC with a triangle logo. The triangle represented strength and solidarity. On 5th July 1991, ROC was borne and registered.
Q: What is different about ROC?
A: It really is our people. In an industry with a notorious turnover of staff, our average length of service is 4.5 years. Our consultants are the best in the industry. They are committed, experienced, dedicated and always make their clients and candidates feel special. Everyones' experience at ROC should be one that adds value to their search of either staff or a permanent or temporary role. Our time is dedicated to you and we give you that valuable commodity to ensure you are closer to a successful outcome. It is not a cliche that we go the extra mile, we really do.
Q: How have you maintained your clients over the years?
A: We start by listening to our clients - we establish what they are looking for, the type of person who will fit into their business and how can we add value to the recruitment process. We start by identifying what recruitment challenges our client faces. It might be as simple as just one particular role being difficult to fill, turnover of staff, lack of control within a business from an agency selection and pricing perspective or simply a fresh set of eyes on how they can attract talent into their business.
One of the common issues organisations have with recruitment agencies is the high turnover of staff - not at ROC. Most of our consultants have been with ROC longer than the majority of HR staff with our clients - we know more about their business than they do initially. It is that experience and passion to deliver each and every time that has maintained our prestigious client base.
Q: Has the current economic climate affected ROC?
A: Yes it has. A large part of our client base is within the property and financial services sectors who at present have hiring freezes for both permanent and temporary staff. We are still maintaining relationships with those clients and are working on a wider number of roles which may be critical for the client in this environment. Other areas of our business are as busy as ever. Retail has been strong upto Christmas/January sales and we believe the need for retailers to find the best staff in the industry will continue to be strong. We have supplied over 300 temporary workers to Selfridges this Christmas/January to support their peak trading period. Our clients in the public sector and new clients such as Royal Mail and Post Office Limited, have continued their drive to hire staff.
Q: How long will it take to secure me a role?
A: We are not able to put an exact time frame to it unfortunately. However, managing the process closely with the client will enable us to manage expectations as best we can for both clients and candidates.
Q: What kind of companies do you deal with?
A: ROC are fortunate to have a wide client base covering such industry sectors as Property, Finance, Consultancy, Executive Search, Not for Profit (including education, charities and medical), Media, Insurance and many others. This means that candidates can have a good choice of companies to choose from.
Q: What is my competition like at the moment?
A: There are a number of candidates available in the market at the moment, but each client will have different levels of experience and personality to suit different teams.
